The folk dances and music of the Kashmir valley form an important part of the it's culture.Kashmir is famous not only for its scenic beauty but also for its traditional dances. Kashmiri people celebrate their festivities with a number of Kashmiri folk dances.
The dress wore by women during the performance consist of pheran, salwar and dupatta; The pheran is in velvet fabric with elaborate zari embroideries or floral patterns around the neck and pockets,which is a prominent feature of a Muslim women's pheran,and the dupatta is stitched to a suspended cap that narrows down at the back.
Women performing in a group may wear different colors of pherans.
